During our time of social distancing we have so many amazing opportunities to pour into our families and the ones we are quarantined with. So what is something you can do that is different from your norm? What is something that you can do to make this time special with your loved ones? How can you make this time something to remember?
Birthday parades, phenomenal sidewalk chalking, Tic Toks, social media videos, and the home kitchens that have suddenly become restaurants/bakeries are all super creative ways families have made the most of this.
I have written up a few things that you and your family can try to break away from the stress of the world and enjoy each other. My only requests are to stay safe and be present with one another!
- Create an adventure with chalk outside (use shapes to have different dance moves to make it through the adventure; a spiral is a spin, a zig zag is a side hop, a straight line is a long jump, circles are one footed hops).
- Start the day off with happy and upbeat music to get started. Maybe have a morning dance party (teenagers- go ahead and cringe here)! I have created a Spotify playlist of some music that makes me smile. Feel free to use it for reference! (I’ve tried to make sure all songs are appropriate but sometimes I get caught up dancing and don’t hear all the words). https://open.spotify.com/playlist/5NoSUj6RYdx2h6xpT4MwAj?si=tEhpFCXtR_-buBCmTkGxxw
- When in conversation, bust out in song lyrics! This is one of our favorite things to do at home.
- Make a family Tik Tok, a family dance, or a special handshake. Pets love learning new handshakes too.
- Create a book together. It could be about your family pet going to school, it could be about the adventure that you want to go on, anything. Create pictures to go along with it with the amazing artwork your family can create.
- Create a scavenger hunt.
- MAKE A FORT!
- Make something to thank the essential workers.
- Write letters to send to your pals and send through the mail.
Really make this time something to cherish. I know it can be a frustrating time, but this is also a privilege. It is rare for some of us to get all this extra time with our family. Use it wisely good people!
