Re-framing Our Thinking

We were watching a National
Geographic show where researchers “drain the ocean” and discover mysteries, history, and fun facts. One that really strikes a chord was about WW2 and ships that had been sunk and how they got there. It’s very interesting and really shifts how you see things. The researchers were talking about how during WW2 battleships were seen off the coast of North Carolina. No one knew because they didn’t publicize this information to reduce mass panic and chaos. Haven’t times changed? Our society has been saturated with negativity and fear regarding the current pandemic. We don’t want to be naive towards the current pandemic, but we also don’t want to be overcome with fear, worry, and terror. Where is that balance?

When our fight or flight response gets triggered it is our job to rationalize our thinking and reduce those negative thinking patterns by re-framing our thoughts. This can be challenging, but if done correctly, you will see your thinking patterns shift to see positive outlooks and help you to utilize your rational brain during times of chaotic or anxious thinking. Here are some examples of ways to re-frame your thinking:

Re-framing our thoughts is all about how we choose to see things. Its about allowing ourselves to see the positives (or negatives) in every situation. I would encourage you to really hear what your thinking and see if you can find a way to re-frame into a thought you would rather have!
